Autumn has well and truly landed here in Dublin and I for one am not complaining. This past week I’ve been trying to figure out why I love autumn and winter so much, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. I’ve concluded it’s a mash of the following …
– It being cold is a great reason to hide under a duvet on the couch and watch 100 movies.
– Candles. All of the candles.
– Hot beverages such as mulled wine and hot chocolate.
– I’m 1,000 times more comfortable under a pile of sweaters, scarves and coats vs. being in a summer dress with my bingo wings flapping about.
– Further to the above point, I prefer to be cold than hot.
– It might snow. Even just for 5 minutes.
– It gets dark early [which mostly sucks], but there’s something about it being dark out and lights being on in shops and in people’s homes.

– Autumn and winter call for decorating our home in two very different styles, both of which I love.
I decorated our apartment a little this week in preparation for autumn and Halloween. I feel this year that my decor is just a bit … meh. Probably because I didn’t make anything new, but simply raided my accessory hoard for autumnally appropriate pieces [aka, every skull ever] and decorated a bit lazily by adding some leaves that I hope have been spared from dog pee.
I’d like to do something a little more special with our bar cart and do something unusual in the hallway too, but the cogs are still turning so it might be the Eve of Halloween before I have a decent idea.
So what about you? Do you decorate for autumn or Halloween? Do you find it a bit too North American? [I’ve heard people here referring to decorating for autumn and spring in that manner, but it’s all I’ve ever known. I love decorating for any season, especially when it comes to the winter months by mixing things up a bit – something to break up the monotony of the darker months].

I love to decorate, and I see the changing seasons as an excuse to mix things up a bit. And when I say "love to decorate" I mean "as soon as one area is finished I'm looking for something else to start messing with"!
Autumn/Winter is my favourite time of year (I may actually be the only person in existence who looks forward to darker evenings!) and I don't think celebrating the change in your decor is too "North American" at all….but I would say that, as I've been contemplating making that most American of decorations, a FALL WREATH! Gasp!
LOL. Yes me too. I bot revel and chagrin in making a wreath this year.
YEP. I wholeheartedly agree.
And hell yes Linda! I'm with you on the autumn / winter as my favourite seasons. I will however say the thing that makes all Irish people cringe – I hope it snows this year. There's one thing I've learned and it's that if you want people to hate you, just say snow in an excited tone and you have an enemy for life here. Thank god Robert is a fellow snow enthusiast!
I think this season is the most YOU – that sexy gothic vibe you love, the autumnal colours (hello berry and vermilion) – it makes sense!! As for decorating for Autumn, yeah kind of but it's more about making things warm and cosy. I'm not one for pumpkins or anything and I don't really decorate for Halloween. I think my issue is lack of storage for all this stuff! I've got too much Christmas crap as it is and adding more for different holidays is just crazy town. I need to move back to the States clearly so I can have a big ol' cellar and garage to fill with THINGS. Because I would. Oh yes, I would. #stuff xxx
The closet in our spare bedroom is dedicated almost entirely to seasonal decor – I'm plain hopeless! 😛 I used to have a lot of rigidly / very specifically autumn decorations (ie – signs with Halloween phrases etc), but I find now that I just rotate my (tiny) ammunition of accessories to suit each season. I add more pink in the spring, bring out my entire skull collection in autumn, all of the velvety soft stuff gets pulled out in the winter etc. So yeah, I suppose I don't really have specific autumn pieces, that is, if you don't count me collecting leaves from outside like a crazy person.
p.s. Goff for lyfe 😛
