Autumn accents

As I’ve said a couple times already {broken record, anyone?}, autumn is my favouritest. This week I made a couple of changes to our home as we inch towards the winter months. I didn’t go out and buy anything – just subtracted what we had, and brought a bit of the outdoors in.
I pulled back on the lavender and pink stuff in our home and tucked them out of sight for the season. I still love those colours, but I think they have a time and place; that being in the brighter months. The light colours get swapped with dark berry shades, gold and brown. All things cosy. And candles. Candles on anything that will sit still. I’m such a creepy romantic. Especially my black candles which sometimes remind me of Hocus Pocus
One last thing – this morning me and my messy hair were on the other side of the lens as part of an exciting feature coming up. I was snapped at my desk crocheting, with gold spray paint. Yeah, I’m going to do that annoying thing where I don’t give you any more details and leave you hanging. More details on that next week.
Do you like to decorate for autumn? Or do you skip autumn decorating and jump right into Halloween? I don’t know how much longer I can wait before I crack out the skulls and creepy Halloween stuff. xx A

I've been reading your blog for a while & I really really enjoy it. I've come across a lot of blogs, especially on home decor and I'm not sure why yours stands apart so much. Maybe it's because it's honest & unpretentious but still so imaginative & creative. Anyone can transform a beautiful building, I want to read about someone who has the imagination to turn the ordinary into something that bit different. I live in a 3 bed semi & am constantly looking for new ideas for a virtually non existent budget. So thank you!! Martina.

Martina, I saw your message late last night and it warmed my heart; I don't care how emo that sounds. Thank you so much for your words. They're the little pep talk I need in my moments of doubt.

As you go cosy we go light and breezy. We had such a mild winter that when Sept 1 hit I whipped off our couch minky blankets and replaced them with the crochet blankets. Big mistake we are having a cold and wet Spring. However, yes I do change the lounge and bedroom up based on seasons.

These pictures are lovely – everything looks cosy and homely, yet stylish with it. I wish I had your talent!

I don't really decorate for different seasons – I tend to have the same stuff all year round. I always wonder where I'd put all the seasonal stuff when it's not 'in season'?! I have been thinking this year more about it, though – having pretty colourful stuff in summer and lots of chunky knitted stuff in autumn/winter (I want to knit a chunky cable cushion cover, if I ever get round to it!) Maybe if I get more organised in the new home I can have some kind of box/crate of seasonal bits! I'm just jabbering on now…

Anyway – back to you! Looking forward to seeing what the crochet/gold spray paint picture is all about!

You don't have to do a huge overhaul to decorate for autumn – just as you've said, lots of snuggly things to prepare for impending hibernation are a touch that I think is enough. An idea I've always had is to make cushion covers for {almost} all of our pillows, and change them with the seasons. In an ideal world.

I've always wanted to knit a cable pattern, but I'm so afraid. Those little fiddly needles scare me. But I have every faith in you! You sew crafty and a master at knitting. xx
