Rebrandiversary – what’s in a name

It’s kinda hard to believe one year ago I made the leap to rebrand my blog. I say rebrand as if my website is an actual thing that’s taken seriously, but nevertheless it’s been a year since that little change and I can say it was possibly the best change I made around here. Before ‘The Interior DIYer’ my blog was called ‘Hydrangea Girl’. I know it was the right decision to change it because that last sentence makes me cringe to no end [if you’re particularly bored you can read why I changed the name here].

In the year since changing the name of my blog I’ve been offered some amazing opportunities. I’m not saying it’s down to the name change, but within the past year I became Woodie’s DIY guest blogger, was asked to jump on board as Image Interiors & Living’s DIY Expert, conducted interviews at the spring and autumn Colourtrend Interior Design Forum and wrote for a number of bloggers and brands; with Harvey Norman’s blog being one of the more recent. It’s mad! It could be coincidence and I’m not saying such brands wouldn’t have worked with me beforehand, but I mean come awn. I think having the name ‘The Interior DIYer’ helped a little. It’s what it says on the tin.

Hydrangea Girl will always be how I started and I’m not turning my back on the name I picked quickly one morning when I first started this blog. Robert recently wrote on a card to me “you’ll always be my Hydrangea Girl” [insert ugly crying here]. I don’t think I could forget it if I wanted!
So if you’re thinking of changing the name of your brand or your site, my advice? …

Has it really already been a year? I feel like I just started getting comfortable typing Interior DIYer into my search engine at work. I mean, no not at work… I am totally busy all day doing non blog stuff… totally. erm. Anyway, whatever the name, a kick-ass blog all the way.

Hhahahahahah! I MEAN, I too refrain from blogging and / or looking at blogs in work. It would be of utmost unprofessional manner. Totally. Yeah. And I don't clear my web history either. Because of all the non-blog things I do on there …

I can't believe it's been a year!!! I really think it was a great move, and it's got to have helped with all the work you've been getting. Like you say, it says what you do – no investigation necessary! A whole year… and I'm still blogging under twatty 'Dinki Dots'!! Hmm… I should JUST DO IT! That video cracked me up – mental man, love it!
Although I still can't think of a decent name, and my blogging has been very sporadic lately. What a let down and a humungous disappointment I am! What would Shia LaBeouf say?!
I'll always think of you as Hydrangea Girl too – that's who I met in London that lovely weekend all that time ago! But The Interior DIYer is definitely the perfect name for your blog! xx

Awww Maria! FEELINGS. I'm not going to lie, it was tough trying to think of a half decent name to change to. I still have my original list of names and it's funny looking through them to see what ridiculous combinations I came up with. DIY Girl? I mean, really. That's just going to bring a load of unwelcome SEO results.

And I will always love DInki Dots because that's who I narrowly escaped being murdered by in a shower stall in London <3

THANK YOU for sharing that video. It's been entirely too long since I've watched it. Hubs and I haven't been able to respond normally to any question starting with "Should I…?" since that came out.

It's been a good year for you…and what a sweet card from Robert!

Oh, Robert and I so need to get on that!!!

"Should I have a cup of coffee?"
      "Just DOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIT!"

      Hand gestures included. Of course.

Oh my god that video!! Hahahaha! Always makes me laugh! Can't believe it's been a year since you changed it but hell, it makes sense that you'd get more work off the change – Happy Blog Name Changing Anniversary!! (why don't they make cards for that?!) xx

No word of a lie, for my blog anniversary in August (which I wasn't celebrating at all. Just gave me something to blog about) Robert bought an anniversary card and wrote blog above it and there was so much ugly crying. He cycled home with a huge bunch of hydrangeas in his hand too – a 45 minute cycle home. One hand full of flowers. Even more ugly face.
